Who am I?

I’m Jean Valjean! OK…not really. I’m Lex (as in Luthor). I’m 24, I live in London and this, as they say, is my life.

First off, I’m not sure you could classify me as an artist per se.

Now, before you storm off in a flurry of double-clicks at being flimflammed in to thinking I am, let me clarify. I am pretty skilled at drawing; some would say I’m “talented” (bleurg). Show me a photo and I will copy it almost exactly (without tracing—of course).

I sound like an artist, right? Wrong. The thing is I don’t create anything new; I am basically a photocopier. A very fancy photocopier with many different functions (I make a mean pasta Putanesca), but a photocopier nonetheless. Let us not detract, however, from the fact that to make a photocopier it takes a lot of practice, dedication and you need to have the right parts.

So I’m not an “artist” in the purest, deepest sense but then according to the Tate modern pretty much any bozo with a messy bed can be an artist so I’m not that bothered. (Point of information: If having a messy bed made you an artist I’d have won the Turner Prize 24 years running).

I should probably warn you at this juncture that art is not my life. It’s a large part of it but I also have a degree in Biology, I’m a waitress, I write, read, cook, run, climb, sing, act and dive (although obviously not at the same time). These things may come up from time to time. It won’t be all art all of the time…I hope you don’t mind. x
